Laughing Penguin Limited is a ghostwriting practice based in Christchurch, New Zealand. This statement explains what personal information this website collects, why I collect it and what you can ask me to do with it, in line with the Privacy Act 2020.

What I collect

  • If you use the enquiry form on the contact page: your name, email address, your message and how you heard about Laughing Penguin.

  • If you sign up to the newsletter: your email address, and your name if you give it.

  • If you email or phone me: whatever you choose to tell me.

  • When you visit the site: Squarespace, which hosts it, records basic visit information such as the pages viewed, the type of device and an approximate location, and uses cookies to make the site work and count visitors.

What I use it for

I use your details to reply to you, to send the newsletter if you've asked for it, and to see which pages people find useful. I don't sell your information or pass it to anyone for their own marketing.

Where it's kept

Form entries and the mailing list are stored by Squarespace, and emails are kept in my Google Workspace account. Both providers may store data on servers outside New Zealand.

Book projects

Interview recordings, transcripts and documents from book projects are covered by the agreement and confidentiality terms for that project, not by this statement.

How long I keep it

I keep enquiries for as long as I need them to respond and to keep business records. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email, and I'll remove you from the list.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you and ask me to correct it. Email poppie@laughingpenguin.co.nz and I'll respond within 20 working days. If you're not happy with how I've handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
